Sufficient grounds to proceed against Javed Akhtar for criminal intimidation offence: Court on Kangana plaint

A court in Mumbai while issuing summons to lyricist Javed Akhtar in a case filed by means of actor Kangana Ranaut has held that there has been sufficient floor to continue against him for the offence of criminal intimidation. However, no case is made out in opposition to him on prices of extortion, the courtroom said. Metropolitan Justice of the Peace (Andheri court) R M Shaikh on July 24 issued the summons in opposition to Javed, asking him to seem earlier than the court on August 5.Kangana Ranaut had filed a grievance in opposition to Javed Akhtar for alleged "extortion and criminal intimidation".

The courtroom, whilst issuing summons, stated no case of extortion become made out towards the lyricist. Asking a person to give a written apology will no longer come underneath the definition of "treasured security" as defined below segment 30 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) due to the fact no legal right is created, extended, transferred, limited, extinguished or released," it stated.

"…the complainant (Ranaut) despite the fact that levelled costs for offences punishable below segment 383, 384 and 387 of IPC for committing extortion and placing individual in fear of loss of life or of grievous hurt as a way to commit extortion, it appears that, no case is made out towards the accused for the aforesaid offences…" the court docket said.

"As a ways as other offences levelled in opposition to the accused are worried, on the idea of averments in the grievance, verification of the complainant and statement of her (Kangana's) sister Rangoli Chandel," the court docket brought. "I even have come to the belief that there are sufficient grounds to continue against the accused for offence underneath IPC phase 506 (crook intimidation) and 509 (gestures or acts supposed to insult the modesty of a female)," it in addition brought. 

In 2020, Javed Akhtar had filed a complaint in opposition to Kangana Ranaut, claiming that she had made defamatory statements towards him in a television interview, which allegedly broken his recognition. In his criticism, he claimed that Kangana dragged his call all through an interview while referring to a 'coterie' existing in Bollywood, following the alleged suicide via actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
